Your music, wherever it lives.
Getting started with Melofin
Choose your music, find a song and press Play. Melofin plays files from their original location; it never changes your music or sends local files to a server.
Start with a folder on this computer
- Open Music folders and choose Add folder from computer…. The full player opens in a tab.
- Choose Choose music folder…, then select a folder containing your songs. Subfolders are included. Your browser may label the confirmation Upload. This gives Melofin local read access; Melofin does not upload or change your files.
- Open Music, find a song and choose Play now, or press the main Play button to start the selected mix.
For a quick check, start with a small folder containing two or three MP3 songs. Keep the player tab open while listening. No files are copied into a permanent music library.
Add a OneDrive folder
- In personal OneDrive, copy the sharing link for a folder accessible to Anyone with the link. Share only what you intend people with that link to access.
- In Melofin’s Music folders, paste it into Shared personal OneDrive folder link and choose Add folder & find songs.
- Wait for the song list to finish, then choose Music and press Play. Keep the OneDrive helper tab available so access can be renewed.
Repeat to add more folders. Work or school OneDrive, SharePoint, sign-in-required shares and other cloud providers are not supported. Melofin does not ask for your Microsoft password.
Find and play music
Search by filename or folder immediately. For titles, artists and albums, open a song’s Details or choose Read song tags. Saved tags also make the Albums and Artists views useful; untagged songs remain in Songs and Folders.
- Play now changes the current song.
- Play next and Add to queue keep the current song playing. Queued songs play before the rest of the mix.
- In order and Shuffle choose how the remaining mix plays. Previous follows your actual listening history.
- Use the song-position slider to seek. While the length is unknown, seeking waits until the song is ready.
Development formats include MP3, M4A/AAC or Apple Lossless, FLAC, WAV, Ogg/Vorbis, Opus, audio-only Opus/Vorbis WebM, AIFF PCM and lossless mono/stereo WavPack. A file’s encoding and browser also matter; a matching extension is not a guarantee. WMA and Monkey’s Audio (APE) are not available in the normal player yet.
Refresh, choose again or read tags?
- Add folder & find songs
- Adds a OneDrive folder and finds the songs it contains. It does not move or copy music.
- Refresh song list
- Checks a OneDrive folder again for added or removed songs. A failed or cancelled refresh keeps its previous complete list.
- Choose folder again
- Renews read access to a local folder and updates its song list. Select the same folder to reconnect it; a wholly different list asks for confirmation.
- Read song tags
- Reads optional titles, artists, albums and track numbers from songs already listed. It does not find newly added songs. Cloud tags can take time; progress and cancellation are available.
- Remove from player
- Removes that folder’s player settings and list, never the files on your computer or OneDrive.
What happens after restarting?
Folders, song lists, saved tags, inclusion choices, queue/history, volume and a periodically saved position stay in this browser profile. Playback returns paused; it never starts automatically.
Local file access does not survive closing its player tab or restarting the browser. Choose the folder again to listen. Saved titles and albums can still be browsed in the meantime.
You can close the popup while music plays. Keep the full player tab open for local music and Firefox playback. Chrome and Edge can also play cloud music without that tab.
Before changing browsers or installations, use Music folders → Back up or move player settings → Save player backup. Keep the old installation until restoration is checked. Backups contain private folder links and settings, not music or file access. They are not encrypted.
If something does not work
- A local folder needs reconnecting: choose the original folder again in Music folders. Removing and re-adding it is usually unnecessary.
- A OneDrive folder cannot be read: open its OneDrive tab and check that the sharing link still opens the intended folder. Melofin does not bypass sign-in or download restrictions.
- A OneDrive song or its tags need extra read access: choose Allow OneDrive file reads in Music folders if you want to grant the optional access. Declining preserves saved data; ordinary native playback and local music remain available where supported.
- A song will not start: press Play in the full player tab, check browser mute/output settings and try another known-working song. An unsupported encoding does not mean your folder was deleted.
- Cloud audio stops while muted: raise the volume and press Play, or keep the player tab open. Browsers can retire silent background audio.
- Tags are missing or unavailable: use filename/folder search and try playback. Missing optional tags do not prevent listening.
